Photo Shoot Crashers!

I’m getting ready to drop my next collection, Holla Knits Crochet! I’m very excited to show you these great patterns, and bring a little crochet to Holla Knits. Knitting is definitely my first love, but for me, being able to pick up a crochet hook every now and then and hook up a granny square or quick scarf or cowl is a great way to mix things up a little.

Baby Goose!

I like to keep the Holla Knits photo shoots as simple as possible, and this time it was just a two person set. Designer (and my friend!) Ann Leachman of Magical Grammar and I knocked this one out by ourselves. Well, ALMOST by ourselves! We were shooting near the Chicago River, and amazingly that sad river still attracts wildlife.

Granny Square Earrings and some Geese!

A baby goose was walking around near our shoot, and was soon joined by it’s parents. I even tried to work them into a few shots! Those pictures didn’t make the cut, but I’m sure having a new goose family is nothing but good luck for the shoot and for the collection.

Monday July 8th is the date for the launch of Holla Knits Crochet! Keep your eye out for more sneak peek pics until then.

Nachtfalter KAL Week 3: Lace Time!

Take a look at all this ribbing!

After two weeks of knitting the Cable Rib, I think everyone is ready to move on. Everyone, that is, except Giovannina, who knit a tiny Nachtfalter for her daughter in the first two weeks, and is now joining in on the adult-sized knitting!

This Week’s Nachtfalter Goal: Begin the front and work half of the lace repeats.

This week we get to move on to the lace pattern – huzzah! There’s been talk in the forum of modifying the pattern to be knit completely in the round until separating for the sleeves, but I’ll be knitting it as written. So after changing to the larger needles (my hands are thankful!), turning the work and knitting the set-up row, I’ll knit half of the 17 lace repeats for the Large size. “Half,” for me, will be 9.

Meeting Point KAL Week 3: Make the Back!

Despite our Meeting Points looking teeny tiny, we are halfway done with the body of the sweater!

My Meeting Point Progress

My progress is looking awesome, if I do say so myself. The bright red Moroccan color is really growing on me, and this pattern is so addicting! I can’t wait to pick it up every time I get to.

Carrie’s Body Progress

Things change a little bit this week – we are moving from working this pattern in the round to working the back chart back and forth. But I know you are up for it!

Sara’s Body Progress

This week’s Meeting Point Goal: Start and finish the Back of the sweater. So we are splitting for the sleeves and following the Back chart of this sweater to finish the Back.

First things first: divide for the sleeves. It’s not super clear how to execute this, only that it needs to be executed. We ended last week a stitch before the marker, so take some scrap yarn on your yarn needle and slip the next two stitches off your needle and onto your scrap yarn, removing your marker. Tie your scrap yarn to secure, and turn your work to get ready to work a next WS row. Follow the first row of your back chart to 1 st before your other marker, and repeat the process of moving these next two stitches to scrap yarn.

Now you are ready to turn and work row 2 of your Back chart with your underarm stitches held and ready to be picked up later. Finish all 65 (67, 69, 69) rows of the chart. And I know it says to leave a 6″ tail, but just to be safe leave more like a 12″ tail.
