Guest Post: Plaid LOVE!

Today’s guest post from designer Jennifer Dassau of The Knitting Vortex is one of the first looks at the upcoming Holla Knits Fall/Winter Collection! I’m so excited about this one that I’m already chomping at the bit to show it off. Knitted plaid?! Yes please!

Even though it’s summer, I’ve been living a virtual autumn with cozy, bulky weight wool and thoughts of  warm knitwear on chilly days. A bizarre thing about designing is that sometimes, you’re immersed in a season that is still months away. Instead of lightweight, lacy cottons, I have thick colorwork fabric on my lap.

Lots of Finishing!

Lots of Finishing!

Typically, when fall comes around, I like to work pieces that are a bit more interesting than mindless – making exciting color pairings, shaping, learning a new technique that uses my sadly neglected crochet hook. This year, I’m starting a little bit early.

Fun I-Cord Finishings!

So that when autumn arrives, I’ll be ready. What says fall better than plaid?!

Granny Square Earrings in Knit Picks Curio!

I spent a long time searching for fun crochet thread when I was looking for a second sample for Casey Carroll’s Granny Squares Earrings and Ring pattern, but came up short.

More Knit Picks Curio!

More Knit Picks Curio!

Luckily for me and everyone looking for fun alternatives to Aunt Lydia’s Crochet Thread, Knit Picks just game out with their crochet thread, Curio!

Curio comes in 20 really beautiful colors (for those of us sick of using Aunt Lydia’s baby blue), and you could make about 135,085,013,951 pairs with one 721 yard ball of this stuff.

A couple great Knit Picks Curio colors!

Cute Girl Squares Tank in Gynx Yarns Merino Sock

Cute Girl Squares Tank in Gynx Yarns Merino Sock

Today the blog tour rolls over to dyer Gynx Yarns, who was kind enough to support my Cute Girl Squares Tank pattern with some seriously gorgeous Gynx Yarns Merino Sock in Cactuar.

I love the three color version of this tank, but I also really love the one color version! It looks so much more graphic and visually interesting in the one color. And I’m still so crazy in love with Laura’s Cactuar colorway. It’s GREEN!

Ann is modeling this tank with some negative ease, which I think just adds to the fun visual graphic appeal of the one color granny squares. But the tank looks great with positive ease, too! Gosh – you think I’m a little bit too close to this design?!

Pop over to the Gynx Yarns Blog because Laura is giving away a copy of this pattern on her blog for this blog tour stop!

Good luck! And be sure to keep up with the whole Holla Knits Blog Tour for lots more giveaways here:
