A tiny hook and tiny yarn means very tiny single crochet stitches! That beautiful yarn I showed off a few days ago is quickly becoming the adorable collars Ann Leachman designed that I showed off last week!

BLUE and Pretty Fab

I can’t remember ever crocheting anything this tiny before. I’m using a size F crochet hook and that tiny and BEAUTIFUL fingering weight yarn. Ann’s pattern is really smart and well thought out, so that is making it all worth it.

Rolling Mess!

It doesn’t look like very much now, but I’m one collar down and one to go, so I know how these come together. Single crochet short row shaping and tiny button hole bands make this project breeze by. I’m going to need many of these in many colors!

With over 6,300 votes cast last week, our Holla Knits Summer KAL champion sweaters are here!

Meeting Point and Nachtfalter!

Easy, breezy, lacy, and summery. We should have guessed that Meeting Point and Nachtfalter would stand above the rest this summer!

First of all, you need your pattern! Be sure to snag your KAL sweater pattern this week at the KAL sale price of only $3!

Knit along details!

Cast On Date: Monday June 3rd.
Duration: This will be a 6 week knit along, with FOs posted the week of July 15th. Each sweater will be divided into 6 parts, and goals for each week of the KAL will be posted every Monday.
Prizes: There will be lots of fun prizes for knitters that post their finished sweaters by the deadline! Prizes to be announced soon.

Meeting Point

Meeting Point!

I’ll be your faithful knit along host for Courtney Spainhower‘s Meeting Point!

Yarn: Because this sweater is designed to be so roomy, and the gauge and net stitch is very loose, you can do just about anything with the yarn for this sweater! I want to play up the summery-ness of this design, so I’m going with Knit Picks CotLin, a DK weight cotton and linen blend, and it comes in a million beautiful colors!

Moroccan Red

I’m going with Moroccan Red! Because why the hell not?!

NACHTFALTER

Nachtfalter!

Katie Canavan of Under the Red Umbrella will be hosting KAL for Stefanie Pollmeier‘s Nachtfalter!

Yarn: Katie and I were clearly on the same page with our love of Knit Picks CotLin, because she is choosing that yarn for her sample, too! The original sample, pictured above, has CotLin on the top, but Katie has chosen to use CotLin for the entire sweater for easier super warm California climate wearing.

Wallaby and Gosling

Katie is going for a much more neutral color story than I am! She is going for Wallaby for the bottom ribbing and Gosling for the top lacy part. Run right?!

So think about colors and get your yarn ordered! We cast on in 2 weeks!

I know you are all very excited to see what I’ve got in store for the Holla Knits 2013 special collection – Holla Crochet! For your first sneak peek of the collection, designer Ann Leachman of Magical Grammar talks changing up her wardrobe with the help of her new crochet pattern.

Ann’s Crochet Collar

I’m always looking for ways change up my daily wardrobe. As someone who is not quick to get rid of a perfectly functional garment (no matter how bored I have become), I play the perpetual game of finding ways to make my tired clothes feel new again. And when I can update an old piece of clothing with materials I already have laying around… it is as gratifying as solving some insanely difficult crossword puzzle.

Ann’s Collar in Action

My Holla Crochet design seems like the perfect solution: A one-skein project that can be made with yarn already in my stash, creating a finished piece that can be worn with many things already hanging in my closet – from sweaters to tank tops alike.

CUTE!

What I love most about crochet is the way it lends itself to sculpting shapes and forms. Knitting requires a tremendous amount of pre-planning and forethought. When working with crochet, you can sort of just begin, adding stitches and turning corners when it feels right. I so much enjoyed working on this pattern that it sent me down a path of deep crochet obsession (of which I am still immersed in). I’m counting down the days till the Holla Crochet launch so I can get my next serious crochet fix.

The HK Crochet Collection is launching is July, which leaves me just a few months to get like 192,358,713,589,135 granny squares worked up!

MORE Granny Squares

So maybe that is a slight exaggeration. I’ve made 40 3 color granny squares and 32 of these beautiful green granny squares. One color granny squares are SO MUCH EASIER than 3 color granny squares! And there are so many fewer ends to weave in. I think I spent more time weaving in ends than I spent actually making the stupid things.

The 3 color granny squares are Knit Picks Gloss Fingering, and the green granny squares are in Gynx Yarns Merino Sock in Cactuar. Hot right?

Celebrate!

I was a little excited yesterday when I FINALLY finished all of the granny squares! So I celebrated by eating a piece of chocolate cake. Naturally!

Keep an eye out for more Crochet Collection sneak peeks!

Garter Stitch Details!

Of course Stefanie Pollmeier‘s amazing design speaks for itself, but I think one of the reasons this pattern has been so popular is this beautiful yarn.

Goshen is a great option for this top! It’s a super soft worsted weight cotton that knits up quick and wears great for warm weather. And it comes in a ton of amazing colors! So whether you pick two very different colors for Just Beachy, two close colors, or just knit the whole thing in one color (I can’t wait to see a one color WIP pop up!), Goshen has all the options!
