The Holla Back KAL starts next Monday, and I’m super excited! There’s been some fun talk about yarn and colors in the Ravelry Group, and designer Emma Welford has been popping in to answer questions already!
If you don’t have your pattern yet, make sure to grab it now. The discounted $3 price will only last until cast-on day, August 20th.
This Week’s Holla Back Tank Goal: Gauge.
This is a pretty exciting swatch, if I do say so myself. Emma gives us a gauge for St St and a gauge for the Zig Zag Lace pattern, so I decided to swatch both. This worked out really well – I was able to swatch for gauge while also practicing the Zig Zag Lace.
Using Knit Picks Stroll Sock in Everglade Heather, and size 5 needles, I came in pretty close to the given gauge. Emma says it should be 28 sts and 32 rows in 4″, and I got 26 sts and 30 rows in 4″.
Since I’m between sizes, this works perfectly! I’ll knit the size 40 tank (finished size 39″, or the size right in the middle), and it should come out just a smidge bigger than 39″, for a finished size around 41″. My bust measurement is usually around 42″, so that will give me an inch of negative ease, just how I like it.
My gauge on the Zig Zag Lace was a bit harder to come by. Emma says it should be 22 sts and 32 rows in 4″; I came in at 24sts and 30 rows. It was tough to count the stitches in the lace pattern, so I’m not worried about the extra stitches, especially since the back is knit with extra negative ease. I’ll keep this in mind while knitting, though.
So next Monday I’ll cast on the middle size, with size 5 needles and sock weight yarn. Hopefully this post will help you pick a good size, too. Next week we cast on, so make sure to gauge and comment in the Rav Group or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
Good luck, Holla Knittas!Pin It
